Tools to help me build, print, and showcase decks
My friends and I have been getting into Magic The Gathering card game, which is good fun but very expensive. Each deck is somewhere between $200 to $1000 AUD. It’s pretty common to “proxy” a card, by printing them out yourself. The proxy technique I use is to buy many cheap official cards, put them into card sleeves, and insert pieces of paper over the front of the card.
There are free sites online that create PDF files for printing the more expensive cards, but I found them a bit lacking. In particular, I want to pick the specific art style of that card, and upload my own custom art.
So I spend a day to make my own at https://nickdavesullivan.com/mtg-maker
It leverages scryfall for all the Magic the Gathering data, including images, and is just a simple react-based client-side app.
Since then, I’ve added a few features, like something to compare decks to show me what I need to add and remove, and something to generate a deck showcase image, which is a nice way to share my deck with friends.
